Pamela Elvira Boeri
She is of mixed Italian and Polish origins and has been living in Warsaw for four years now. Pamela holds a bachelor’s degree in European Studies at Cardiff University, UK and a master’s degree in European Studies at the European College in Natolin, Poland.
Having obtained an MA, she decided to stay in Warsaw and work there. She has applied for the post of Climate Advocate because she thinks the EU should become independent from external suppliers of energy. Pamela hopes Challenge Europe, organized by the British Council, will help Polish Climate Advocates to raise public sensitivity to environmental problems. She is particularly anxious to implement a project on the use of renewable energy sources in large Polish cities, e.g. for municipal transport. |

Michał Brennek
He is a candidate for a doctor's degree at the Geography and Regional Studies Department of Warsaw University where he carries out integrated research into the natural environment and the relationship between the man and the environment in particular. So far he has co-operated with a number of NGOs, including the British Council, on climate change related projects. Michał thinks climate change is one of the most significant challenges that face humankind. Unfortunately, the problem is complex which is the reason why there are a lot of personal opinions and emotions and few concrete facts and real actions. His credo is: Firstly, you can change the world! Secondly, it requires a lot of effort. A change can be made through co-operation only, so the more contacts you have with people and institutions not related with the project the better it is for the project. |

Kornelia Milczarek
Environmental protection and respect for nature have always been present in her home. Her interest in environmental protection was one of the reasons for undertaking studies at the Spatial Management Department of Łódź University. The knowledge she acquired at university indirectly inspired her to participate in Challenge Europe. Kornelia would like to focus on the possibilities to use biomass as an alternative to fossil fuels, to promote selective waste collection actions and minimise the reluctance of the Łódź community to build a waste incineration plant within the City of Łódź. She believes climate change can be mutually counteracted at local, international and even European levels. She also hopes for getting in touch with people of different opinions which will create a platform for discussion and an exchange of experience. |

Agata Nagrabska
Due to her university degree, Agata has been interested in environmental protection, particularly in climate change for a couple of years. As a trainer she participated in the first edition of ZeroCarbonCity project conducted by the British Council. Then, on behalf of the British Council, she coordinated the second edition of the workshop. She was also a project coordinator of Climate Exchange addressed to a group of experts dealing with climate change. Besides, Agata was a member of the Polish team working for CarbonGame - Emission Trade project (www.carbongame.org). As a result of the project implementation, an Internet education tool was created concerning the trade of CO2 emission authorisations. Agata Nagrabska has graduated from the Inter-Departmental Environment Protection Studies at Warsaw University. She would like Challenge Europe's Climate Advocates to make Polish people change their way of thinking about climate change. She thinks one should stop perceiving climate change as a purely environmental/ecological problem and start thinking about it as a factor which will have a direct impact on people's lives and economy. |

Krzysztof M. Piskorski
He is a graduate from the Inter-Departmental Environment Protection Studies at Warsaw University and from the Environmental Change Management Department at Oxford University. He worked as an environmental auditor of environment management systems. He thinks both immediate and long-term actions are necessary to prevent unfavourable climate change. A low carbon direction will make it possible to reduce fossil energy materials use including carbon and to apply ecologically clearer alternative technologies. The basic condition for this change is the development of alternative technologies which will satisfactorily meet our energy needs. It is also necessary to adjust and modify the existing infrastructure to new requirements. These are long-term and many-a-generation changes. Krzysztof would like people to change their attitude to the natural environment and to its protection, to stop treating the natural environment as an unlimited source of energy and a vast landfill. He thinks international co-operation is an important component of Challenge Europe. It will allow to get in touch with professionals in the area of environmental protection. |

Marta Śmigrodzka
She has been working for ecological NGOs for five years. Marta was responsible for the monitoring of the EU funds use by public institutions with respect to their impact on the natural environment. She also implemented a number of promotional and informational projects on the sustainable use of public funds for the Polish Green Net (Polska Zielona Sieć). The participation in Challenge Europe will be a perfect component of her career as she is going to get deeply involved in the counteracting of climate change. She has been dealing with environmental protection for years as, among others, a project coordinator in an ecological NGO. As a linguist who can speak four foreign languages and an experienced Public Relations specialist she focuses on communication processes and informational campaigns for the counteracting of climate change. Marta follows the progress of negotiations related to the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions such as the Kyoto Protocol. She thinks either herself or other project participants will take part in those difficult negotiations one day.
Marta hopes she will be able to provide an outline of a communication campaign together with her project partners which will change individual attitudes of energy and fuel users in Europe. |

Maciej Marcinek
He is in his fifth year studying at the University of Science and Technology in Kraków, majoring in Environmental Engineering at the Department of Fossil Fuels and Energy of the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection. Renewable energy sources (RES) are his specialty and his passion. He also works on a voluntary basis for a non-profit organization PN Energie Cites, which support RES and energy efficiency initiatives. He believes that one of the ways to reduce emission of toxic substances causing global warming and other harmful phenomena is to disseminate RES technologies. It is also vital to ensure that such renewable energy sources are used reasonably. In his opinion, Challenge Europe gives young people an opportunity to make good use of their potential in order to prevent climate change. |

Anna Żuk-Jankowska
She graduated from the Faculty of Landscape Architecture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. She majored in Environmental Development. She learned how to shape human environment (in the context of landscape architecture) in such a way as to avoid damaging the environment and at the same time improve people’s living standards. Her MA thesis was devoted to the construction of a landscape/nature/historic park in the area of Łuk Siekierkowski in Warsaw. Anna would welcome the opportunity to increase the popularity of mass transit and promote a less consumption-oriented lifestyle in order to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. She also opts for designing urban spaces in such a way that green areas can sufficiently compensate for the damaging impact of built-up territories. |
