Name: Jacob Gaard Nielsen
City: Frederiksberg, Denmark
Background: Jakob Gaard Nielsen has a Bachelor's degree in English and Ethnology from the University of Copenhagen, where he is currently finishing his Master's degree in Modern Culture. Jakob is dedicated to the fight against climate changes. He has an active role in the climate initiative Green Agenda (www.groenagenda.org), is the co-founder of Energy Crossroads (www.energycrossroads.org) and project manager for the Sticks n’ Sushi’s sustainability program (www.sushi.dk).
Name: Metta Wiese
City: Nærum, Denmark
Background: Metta Wiese is an environmental anthropologist and has studied in England, Iceland and Denmark. Metta is deeply involved in the project SciArt (www.sciart.dk), where a traditional sailing ship will function as a sustainable platform for a research expedition in connection with the Polar Year 2009. During the expedition the nautical climate will be examined, research conducted and the findings will be communicated by a group of artists, in order to unite science and art in the project.
Name: Jasper Steinhausen
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Jasper Steinhausen has a Master's degree in Environmental and Socio-Economic Planning from Roskilde University and a diploma in Jounalistic Methodology as well as a diploma in Marketing and Communication. Jasper works as an environmental consultant, (www.steinhausen.dk / www.klimakanon.dk) and is also one of the founding figures behind the climate network ‘Green Drinks’ (www.greendrinks.org).
Name: Torben Frandsen
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Torben Frandsen used to work as a seaman and ships' carpenter on training ships, navy ships and trade ships. Now he’s enrolled at the University of Copenhagen, where he is studying Natural Resources Economy. He recently won a prize because of an idea he has about how to increase students' awareness of waste and sustainability. 
Name: Nina Louise Jensen
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Nina grew up on the charming island of Bornholm. From an early age her main driving forces have been her will and need to experiment, her striving for artistic freedom and her determination to preserve esthetics within the line of production. Those significant core values followed Nina through her previous occupation, working within the vast field of architecture. Currently Nina is preparing the launch of the world’s first CO2 neutral music festival and her experiences, co-managing that grand project, have made her reconnect to her inner values and treasure diverse challenges within long-term project work.
 

Name: Søren Magnussen
City: Næstved, Denmark
Background: Søren Magnusen has an Advanced Diploma in Agriculture Nature and Environment, and for the past 15 years he has worked to find sustainable solutions for the big and small everyday challenges. Søren works as a coordinator with Agenda 21 (www.naestved.dk/agenda21)

 

Name: Anastasiya Yerkovych
City: Lund, Sweden (Moving to Denmark over the summer)
Background: Anastasiya Yerkovych has a Master's degree in Marketing and Finance from the The Business School of Central European University in Budapest. Anastasiya is a true globetrotter and she has lived in the US, Marocco, Turkey, Hungary, Sweden and Denmark. This has enabled her to see how differently climate and environmental issues are handled across the globe, and she is convinced that a mutual effort across country borders is pivotal if climate changes are to be limited.
Name: Kathrine Vejby
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Kathrine Vejby is a journalist and together with Nina Louise Jensen one of the instigators of the first carbon neutral festival in the world. They cooperate with a group of Ph.D. Students at Denmark’s Technical University, Energy Crossroads, to make environmental issues less dull and more ‘funky’. (www.co2penhagen.com)
Name: Bettina Nada Fellov
City: Dragør, Denmark
Background: Bettina Nada Fellov is a biologist with a Master's degree in environmental management. She works with strategic planning of behavioral changes and environmental maintenance of housing buildings and is currently part of the project: ”Fra A til Mimersgade” (www.fellovconsult.dk).
Name: Janne Foghman
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Janne Foghman has a Master's degree in philosophy and biology from Copenhagen University and a Master's degree in bio-ethics and medical law from The University of Central Lancashire. Janne is highly interested in the preservation of biodiversity and the problems regarding the increasing population.
Name: Stine Krog-Pedersen
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Stine Krog-Pedersen is an engineer within the field of energy and metallurgy from Denmark’s Technical University and has taken part of her education in Iran. Stine has previously worked for Dong, and she now works as a climate communicator at the Experimentarium in Copenhagen. In addition to her dedication to climate issues, Stine has been involved in several awareness projects such as ’Follow the Women’, where women from all over the world bike 250km throughout Syria, Lebanon and Jordan to put focus on peace and women’s rights in the Middle East (www.stinekp.blogspot.com).
Name: Thomas Gjerulff
City: Højbjerg; Denmark
Background: Thomas is studying to become a KaosPilot (Chaos Pilot) in Aarhus and is an energetic and curious person. He has a philosophical point of view and is very interested in management and in how to think the concept of creativity into management. Thomas is preoccupied with a term he calls 'the reflective room'. This is a place deep within you, where you do some soul-searching in order to find the best and easiest ways around life. Previously, Thomas has worked seven years as an ambulance man, some of which were spent on the Thule base in Greenland. Altogether, this shows that Thomas is a man of action. A man who prefers to be in places that are meaningful to him - and in places where he can actually make a difference and have an impact on his surroundings. Today, it's no coincidence that Thomas is one of the new Climate Advocates.
Name: Ubaid Tariq
City: Karlskrona, Sweden
Background: Ubaid Tariq has previously worked as Examination Supervisor for British Council in Pakistan, volunteered for the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) after the earthquake at the Pakistan India border in 2005 and is currently finishing his education in electro engineering at the BTH University in Sweden.
Name: Thøger Lund-Sørensen
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Thøger Lund-Sørensen has a Master's degree in business administration and philosophy from Copenhagen Business School and a Master's degree in Local Economic Development from London School of Economics. Thøger is currently working at the Center of Business and Politics at Copenhagen Business School and is trying to raise funding for a Ph.D. on climate policies.
Name: Rasmus Vincentz
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Rasmus Vincentz has trained in social science, covering public administration, business and international politics with a strong focus on environment, energy and innovation. Subsequently Rasmus has worked with climate and energy issues within the public as well as the private sector, and his experience tells him that it is of key importance to uphold a positive approach no matter how bleak the climate prospects are.
Name: Lene Larsen
City: Copenhagen, Denmark
Background: Lene Larsen is the operations manager at Hotel Kong Arthur in Copenhagen – part of the world’s first, carbon neutral chain of hotels. (www.brochner-hotels.dk)

Maria Magdalena Estevez - Maria Magdalena’s career has always been within the environmental field. At 29, she has worked as a chemist in environmental laboratories and has studied in four countries. She graduated with a European M.Sc. in Environmental Technology and Management and currently she lives in Denmark. She enjoys traveling, meeting people from everywhere and speaking foreign languages. She would like to work with ideas in clean energy technologies which she foresees are the paths to a sustainable future, and in relating them to other parts of the world.  For sustainability can only be achieved if both north and south work together towards the same goal.

Challenge Europe Video

  • Maher Nasser, Director of the UN Information Service, invited Climate Advocates to submit their 'Jezersko Principles for Climate Action to the UN competition 'What would you say to to world leaders?' UK Climate Advocate Jane Burston responded to this request by recording a short video about most important principles from the Climate Camp: binding emissions targets, an alternative to GDP, a fair deal for developing countries and accountability for delivering on agreements made at Copenhagen.
