School for Climate
How do you increase awareness of climate issues among teenagers? The Slovak Sciencewear competition aimed at secondary school students aged between 14 and 18, focusing on things that matter to them – fashion, music and having a voice.
Fashion design, pop music and education joined forces for this project. The Climate Advocates launched a competition for secondary school pupils; their aim was to encourage the students to design a T-shirt which would reflect the impact of global warming and the need to reduce CO2 emissions. They had to consider what they wished to convey and how best to achieve this so that the message could be worn and shared. Designs were submitted by schools and individuals. The entries were then judged and the winners were awarded at an award ceremony aboard a ship on the Danube River with prizes such as solar mobile chargers and radios, and signed CDs of popular singer Katka Koscová. Take a look at the T-shirts at skolapreklimu.stranka.info. This project would not have been possible without the help of Professor Milan Lapin, climatologist, Dana Kleinert, fashion designer and Ekosolar Company.
