Who will be the Pioneer of the Year? PDF Print E-mail

Last week the ten young sustainability entrepreneurs who reached the final part of the Pioneer of the Year competition presented to the press and the public. Among the finalist ideas are: a climate-fashion concept, new and innovative ways to take advantage of leftover food and an ambition to use music and culture as a way of bringing about change and awareness. Throughout, the climate advocates have been lobbiyng their idea for votes from the public, and so far over 3000 people have cast their votes for their favourite project. These votes will play a large role in the public finale on 21 February.

The finalists will now continue to develop their concepts on their own. They will spend the weekend at Ulriksdal Castle where they will be coached by ten experienced and established entrepreneurs. During the castle weekend entrepreneurs fine tune their ideas for the finale.

Who the pioneer of the year will be is decided on 21 February when the climate advocates will pitch their ideas before an audience and a jury of investors. The winners of “Pioneer of the Year” are awarded with offices, contacts, money and practical tools to actualize their entrepreneurial idea.

This grass-roots project aimed to be the first step in helping a densely populated Athenian community to make lasting changes towards sustainability in a socially and historically important area of the capital. The project focused on changing behaviour through a series of workshops which informed people about energy efficiency and ‘greening’ initiatives in buildings.
