Climate Advocates championed Challenge Europe projects at Nordic Climate Solutions

Nordic Climate Solutions took place at the Bella Centre in Copenhagen only three months before the Centre is to host COP15. The conference provided an important networking opportunity for businesses, politicians, researchers and Climate Advocates concerned with climate change.

As the name suggests, Nordic Climate Solutions emphasised ways to accelerate the change to a low carbon future – right here, right now – moving beyond the years old rhetoric of “yes, there is a problem, and yes, we need to do something about it.” The conference was all about solutions and tried to be bold in its approach – just as Challenge Europe Climate Advocates are in their endeavours. Elisa Gasperini - Elisa currently works for The Development Fund, an environmental and development NGO in Oslo, in both the Climate Change and Central America teams. She has Law and Arts degrees from the University of Auckland and is half-Italian, half-Kiwi. Elisa believes that volunteerism amongst youth can influence and change unjust societal and political structures, and she is also International Coordinator and active board member of the youth organization “Spire”. Elisa is particularly interested in the ethics of climate change and its impacts on poor countries with low adaptive capacity. She has previous experience as Regional Coordinator of the New Zealand Human Rights Film Festival, Information Officer at the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin and recently spent several months working with a network of youth organizations in Malawi. She enjoys music, film, languages and dancing in her spare time.

Challenge Europe Video

  • Maher Nasser, Director of the UN Information Service, invited Climate Advocates to submit their 'Jezersko Principles for Climate Action to the UN competition 'What would you say to to world leaders?' UK Climate Advocate Jane Burston responded to this request by recording a short video about most important principles from the Climate Camp: binding emissions targets, an alternative to GDP, a fair deal for developing countries and accountability for delivering on agreements made at Copenhagen.
