Finnish Advocates take part in a green TV show PDF Print E-mail

Operation Earth” is a brand new TV series now running on Finnish Channel Four featuring three separate celebrity teams with different environmental causes to raise funding for. In the TV show one of the teams works hard to get a windmill for an isolated village deep in the jungle in Madagascar, the second team strives to set up biogas ovens and help prevent deforestation in Nepal. The third team, "The Pirates of the Baltic Sea”, sails our own shores determined to raise the necessary funding for a wetland project. All projects will be executed in close co-operation with the WWF.

To support the design and implementation of their campaigns each team has a Godfather (or a Business Angel if you like) and a professional PR agency in their corner. The British Council’s Climate Advocates have an active role in the series as experts - they spar, criticise, and encourage the celebrities in their efforts to raise money. Their job is to keep the big picture in mind, give them a reality check if needed and push them in the right direction. The Finnish Climate Advocate Team have lent a helping hand to the celebrities for two reasons – to support them in their endeavours, but also to reach audiences that are otherwise insensitive to green issues. In addition, the Advocates are active on the website of the programme where they answer viewers' questions and take turns in blogging.
