Andrea Ilona Joós

PDF Print E-mail

Andrea has just recieved a master's degree in Biology and Ecology and a teacher’s certificate from Eötvös Lóránd Science University. In the meantime she works as editor for a cultural tv-programme and sometimes as a trainer for youth. She has a wide range of interests and is continuing to study with the ELTE Faculty of Arts (art theory and media studies). With the advocate team they set up an ensemble where Andrea sings and plays the flute. She thinks that the Earth is not in trouble - mankind is. The problems are rooted in the character of people, in the likes and wants of individuals, in our own character. If there is a solution, then it starts with awareness.

Ákos Lukács

PDF Print E-mail

Ákos is a climate change economist and works in the field of voluntary carbon market mechanisms, emissions trading, corporate climate strategy and carbon management. Akos was born in the countryside of Hungary and has had some long lasting hobbies that have given him his present values in life: horseriding, folk-dancing and folk music! All of them non-electric, unplugged, real life activities that consume only human energy, producing smiles and happiness. He decided to understand those people who disagree with good environmental objectives and prove that there are economically viable solutions to the challenges of climate change. So now he hopes to bring together social, environmental and economical interests which could help to prevent the rapid loss of our beautiful nature and our values, that our kids will want to grow up with too.

Ágnes Vértesi

PDF Print E-mail

Ágnes is currently doing her Msc. in Envrionmentally Studies at Eötvös Loránd University. She is working as well as a trainee at an energy agency and as a special editor for a news site. In her free time she plays football, sings for a choir and she loves to be with her family and friends. Born in Budapest, raised in a village with a population of about 260 people and now living in Budapest again, she sees the difference between these two determining lifestyles of mankind. But they have one thing in common, whether they live in a city or the country, that mankind has made huge and irreversible changes to our planet. One of them is climate change, and the most important role belongs to carbon-dioxide, which lead her straight to the low-carbon principle and the Challenge Europe programme. She is obsessed with the idea of 'never too late to learn or act' so she is trying to insipre everyone to change and start caring about our environment. Her motto (originally spoken by Jane Goodall) is: 'We have a choice to use the gift of our lives to make the world a better place.'

Viktor Friedmann

PDF Print E-mail

Viktor is currently a PhD student and  member of a Hungarian NGO. Coming from a political science background, he is most interested in the social and political context in which the transformation to a low-carbon economy and society takes place. He is not specialized in environmental issues: his field of expertise is sub-Saharan Africa, political philosophy, and the theory and ethics of international relations. As a second year PhD student at Central European University, he conducts research on the relation between the foundations of world order and the North-South divide in international politics. He is also working as a member of Corvinus Society for Foreign Affairs and Culture, an NGO specialized in international relations. His interest in the environment originates from a mixture of childhood experience, political and personal moral dilemmas and a l’art-pour-l’art scientific challenge. Having seen many theories of political action, now he feels that Challenge Europe is an opportunity to put those ideas into action and test them in real circumstances. Moreover, the most inspiring and exciting aspect of this project is its openness to different approaches to the actual problem. Having others around who are professionals in engineering, marketing or natural sciences offers many ways to learn and an opportunity to achieve something that he could never reach on his own.

Gábor Holló

PDF Print E-mail

Gábor graduated as an agronomist and also has a degree in European Studies. He was raised in the Hungarian countryside and has always been fascinated by the beauty of nature. After several years of working, studying and travelling in different countries, he has now worked in public administration for nearly 6 years. All these experiences have turned him into a person who lives with respect for nature. He is not happy with the limitless consumption of “modern man” and the ignorance towards our environment. He realized that there is so much more to do than just empty talks and that when it comes to climate change, the real actions depend on individuals and we all have to take part in it. It is our responsibility to save the planet for our descendents. Gabor is eager to find a solution that will open the eyes of society and do something great as a climate advocate in this project.
