Green Food Project

Lessening the impact of food production on the environment, convenience and good cooking were at the forefront of the Swedish Climate Advocates’ minds when they devised a new online service, Majas matverkstad to help people cook sustainably every day.

greenfood Planning, purchasing and cooking are simplified as the recipes shared by the public are transformed into weekly menus and shopping lists, which can be sent to your mobile phone at the click of a button. Everyone in Sweden can take an active role in this inclusive project which highlights the ease with which we can cook sustainably every day. The Climate Advocates’ partner in this venture is the famous Swedish chef Maja Söderberg. Together with the Climate Advocates she is writing a book about ‘green food’ incorporating some of the most delicious recipes from the website. The book is due to be published in 2011. In November 2009, UK experts Rosie Boycott and Seb Mayfield spoke at an international seminar on urban farming organised by the Climate Advocates in Stockholm. Rosie Boycott, the chairman of the London Food Board, argued that the power over food must be put back in people's own hands. Seb Mayfield was full of examples of how to start a crop in just about anywhere. With his project Food Up Front, people have been helped to fill their window boxes, driveways and balconies with vegetables. If you are tempted to try out some of the delicious ‘green’ recipes you can find weekly menus on www.ecoprofile.se.
