Frame Climate Change Competition

The key concern of the Turkish Climate Advocates was to make people aware that climate change is also a local issue. They wanted to dispel the myth that the effects of global warming could only be found in the North Pole and sought to make people look more closely at their local environment and realise that it is also being affected.

frameclimate1The photo competition ‘Frame the Climate Change’ called for professional and amateur photographers to capture the effects of climate change in Turkey. The competition was announced at a press launch in June 2010 in Istanbul. Over 590 photos were submitted in two categories – standard and manipulated. The entrants were judged by a prestigious panel of professionals and experts including Kemal Nuraydın, the editor-in-chief of the Turkish edition of National Geographic, Serkan Sedele; a renowned Turkish photographer, Deniz Öner; Culture & Arts Editor of the news portal Hurriyet; actors Arzu Balkan, Yetkin Dikinciler and Tamer Karadagli, and academic Tolga Hepdincler. The jury selected three finalists in both categories and chose twenty photographs to be exhibited. The award ceremony was held in September 2010. The photographs were exhibited in at least ten cities between October 2010 and March 2011. This enables the message to reach many people and raise awareness among the general public.
