Ivona Zelinková, 33, senior consultant for a recruitment agency

Ivona has travelled around the world and seen many aspects of life. Now, she would like to contribute to a change in people’s thinking about sustainable living. She wishes people would realise that the resources we have are limited and that they leave their cars at home more often and use public transport or bicycles instead.
 

  

 

 

Katka_Janatova.jpgKateřina Janatová, 26, pottery maker and trainer

Kateřina is a professional pottery maker with a long term interest in ecology and environmental issues. Her friends describe her as a practical, economical and adventurous person. Kateřina’s own motto is Think globally, act locally. She has been an active volunteer for Sdružení Duha and as an ecology lecturer for TEREZA (both NGOs). She would like to make people aware how to contribute to CO2 reduction and minimise climate changes.

Kristína Tabačková, 23, student of Environmental Studies and International Relations at Masaryk University in Brno

Kristína is a student of Environmental Studies and International Relations at Masaryk University in Brno. It is her dream is that everyone in the whole world would realise how wonderful our Earth is and start to protect it. Her friends say about her that she is stubborn in a good way, she knows what she wants and when she starts something, she finishes the task no matter what.

Martin Zika, 36, journalist

Martin is a journalist and a father to a 6 year-old son. Friends describe him as a stubborn man who tends to take a lead. He himself would like to be remembered for something that really helped other people. Martin believes people should live in harmony with nature instead of exploiting it for their own benefit.

Lenka Pipková, 28, language teacher and volunteer for ADRA and Greenpeace; graduated in 2006 as Doctor of General Medicine

Lenka posses a very strong sense for justice. She wants to help people and make a difference on this planet. Her main point of interest is international development and she wants to focus on the connection between climate change and extreme poverty. She has lived and worked in several countries where she has learnt to understand different cultures and respect people from various backgrounds. Last year, she spent four months in Nepal and India as a volunteer health project manager. Lenka has now returned to teaching whilst maintaining two volunteer posts, for ADRA and Greenpeace. She graduated from Charles University, as a Doctor of General Medicine in 2006.

Lydia Hähnel, 22, student of Management of Natural Resources, Charles University, Prague

Lydia studies Management of Natural Resources at Charles University in Prague. She
enjoys all kinds of volunteer work and would like to spend a year in Asia or Africa after completing her degree. Lydia is interested in the problems of global warming, changes of ecosystems and their effects on society and economics. She wants to understand things in a wider context, i.e. how nature influences society, economics, politics and vice versa.
 

Jaroslav_Novotny.jpg Jaroslav Novotný, 21, student in Management of Environmental Protection, University of Pardubice; also works as a coordinator of Creative Library project at The Study and Research Library in Hradec Králové

Jaroslav is a creative person and active citizen. He has experience of many different cultures, languages and life styles thanks partly to time spent living in South Africa. His interests are dynamic and he is open to trying as many new activities as possible. Jaroslav has been a member of the Commission on Sustainable Development at the Prague UN Model 2008 and 2009. In the future, he would like to work in the PR area of environmental protection within the Czech Republic. He searches for interactions, alternatives and new solutions. Jaroslav's life motto is: Make way for the essential over the important.

Markéta Volná, 26, project developer of Ostrava – candidate for the title European Capital of Culture 2015

Markéta graduated from Ostrava University in 2009 where she studied Human Geography and Regional Development. She loves nature and is interested in environmental protection and improvement of life in polluted cities. She would like to motivate people to take up a more active role as citizens especially in the area of life style and environmental protection.

Marta Zveibil Hruba, 32, graduated from Film Academy of Performing Arts in 2004

Marta graduated from the Film Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 2004. She is trained in film photography and has experience in creating short documentary films for the Czech television. Marta can speak several languages and for the past three months has lived in Curitiba, Brazil. She is especially interested in problems of urban environment and its improvement and protection. She wants to be remembered for helping others and changing something that matters.

Petra Melingerová, 24, student of Czech Agricultural University, works for Safety Line, a free helpline for children and young people

Petra has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Protection and is currently extending her studies at Czech Agricultural University. She also works for Safety Line, a free helpline for children and young people and for the eco-centre Koniklec. Petra’s goal is to change people’s attitude towards environmental issues and get more people involved in public life.

Zuzana Cabejšková, 20, student of Environmental Protection at Charles University in Prague

Zuzana studies Environmental Protection at Charles University in Prague. She feels responsible for
vulnerable people and endagered nature which makes her take charge and step up for a better future.
She admires people, who find courage to face issues which surround them and turn against the submissive mainstream. Zuzana sees
irresponsible customer behaviour as the most alarming threat for the Czech Republic. 

Michaela_Suchardova.jpgMichaela Suchardová, 32, lawyer, Ministry of Industry and Trade

In the last 6 years, Michaela worked for the European Commission in Brussels and an NGO in Prague. Now she works for the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the SOLVIT departement. She believes that a person can achieve anything they want provided they work hard for their vision and their actions are for the good of a whole community. She would like people to start appreciate basic things such as water, air, trees, etc.

David Paleček, 22, student of Artificial Photosynthesis, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague

David studies Artificial Photosynthesis at Charles University in Prague.His other great passions are all kind of sports, playing guitar and interest in things happening around him. He believes in "God" existing inside a man and follows the quote: "The things you do for yourself are gone when you are, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy".

Tomáš Baďura, 24, student of the Institute of Economic Studies, Charles University

Tomáš studies Economic Theories at Charles University in Prague. For his bachelor thesis, he is focusing on the issue of rain forests, biodiversity and carbon credits. For his master thesis Tomas would like to join in the Orangutan Tropical Peatland Research Project situated in Borneo. Tomáš is also a big film fan, so he has worked as a volunteer for international festival of animated films Anifest and One World festival of documentary films. His dream is to work as an environmental economist in a development cooperation NGO, ideally the United Nations.

Romana Mlčochová, 20, student of Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín

Romana studies first year of Process Engineering at Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín. She loves nature and wants to contribute to its protection. She believes that people need to become aware of the impact of their actions on the environment.

 

 
 
 
The Green Building project focused on promoting the construction of passive and low energy buildings. The reason for this was obvious as buildings are responsible for over 40 per cent of the green house gas emissions. As a result of this project a new NGO called the Czech Green Building Council was established.
